Intro to 福德正神 (aka Tua Pek Kong)

In celebration of Tua Pek Kong Birthday and the giving of blessings and wealth via manifestation of lucky number, this blog would like to share more background of Tua Pek Kong to benefit and increase the faith of more people.

Tua Pek Kong Birthday is usually celebrated on Lunar 2nd month 2nd Day and Eight Month the Fifteen Day (Mid Autumn Festival). Based on past experience, Tua Pek Gong is very generous and will manifest His winning numbers on lottery during the Birthday period to share His Blessings and wealth to the people. His wish to help everyone gain wealth and prosper so that we can succeed in our purposes !
"Prosperous" can mean continued to thrive, continued success in everything you do, to grow, to flourish, to have wealth and good fortune.

Just hang around the Temple during his Celebration Day and you may get to see Lucky Number written on Incense Urn or Joss-Papers. One should also invite "Red-Packet" from His Wealth Vault. The small amount of money inside are very auspicious and best if used to put inside the wallets, put at Wealth location or contribute to your business capital so that with His blessings, wealth will grow and business would flourish.

Tua Pek Kong (aka  Grand Uncle)

The great Deity of the earth (Tua Pek Kong) possess great powers that not many can match ! Why ?

There is several aspect of the earth; it is wide and extensive, it supports and nourishes all living beings, it receives the great rain, it produces grass and trees, it holds all planted seeds, it produces medicines, it is impartial and it holds many treasures.

All the lands through out the world receives His protection; all the grasses, woods, stones, sands, paddy fields, hemp, bamboo, reeds, grains, rice, gems, and oil come forth from the ground because of His power. He can even prevent the spreading of epidemics; furthermore He’s the greatest wealth Deity on earth !

 

He’s always depicted as an elderly man with a white beard usually smiling and maintaining a benevolent expression. He holds an auspicious wish fulfilling object called “Ru Yi” 「如意」or a Dragon-head staff. While the other hand on the right holds several Gold ingots. He is also called “The Upright Deity of Fortune and Wealth” (福德正神) when worshipped in temples and homes.

It is said that the Tua Pek Kong reside in almost every place (aka like the landlord of the house, offices etc) and affect us in our daily lives. By chanting this mantra with FAITH, one is to change our fate much faster and more directly. By chanting it sincerely and offering to the Tua Pek Kong, one will receive the fortunate blessings to change one's fate. You will be granted harmony, good health, prosperity or career success in whatever you do in your daily life.

Irregardless of your religion (of course if you are a Buddhist, Taoist or Chinese your FAITH in this Deity would be stronger and hence manifestation of miracles would be more obvious), you can chant this mantra :

安土地真言 Tua Pek Kong Mantra is as follows: Namo sam-man-do, moo-toh-nam, om, doo-loo doo-loo dei-wei, so-ha

Typically for Buddhist, before the start of chanting of the Buddhist sutras, one would usually chant "An Tu Di Zhen Yen" (Settlement of the Earth God Mantra). This is to invite the Earth Gods (Buddhist Protector or Guardian Angel and also in charge of the particular place) to attend the ritual so that He would also be able to obtain the merits from paying homage to the Buddhas. By Increasing His merits, He would very happy and would typically grant your wishes. According to various description of manifestation of miracles, by chanting this mantra,

- Some people were able to bear a child after 10 years of infertility.
- Some people were blessed with good health in their whole life.
-Some people were blessed with good marriages shown by a reddish glow on their faces.
-Some people had karmic obstacles in their lives, making life tough. After chanting this mantra, their every wish is fulfilled without any obstacles in their endeavors.
-Some people became big lottery winners after they pray or chanted this mantra ( which no further elaboration as based on the high success rate of the lucky numbers).

Consistency in this practice is important. One should chant the mantra (at least 21 times) daily. You can increase the chanting on auspicious dates which are 1st and 15th or 2nd and 16th day of the lunar month. The correct time is between noon and midnight.

While chanting the mantra, one should Visualise Tua Pek Kong appeared as a well fed, elderly gentleman (just like Santa Clause) , with a Ru YI in his left hand and a GOLD Ingot in his right. Imagine that He is a beloved family member (since he is landlord in your house or office ). Upon hearing your mantra, He comes over to your offerings.

You can "imagine" that you are making immense amount of offerings (so unlimited such that it filled up the entire Universe !!) which include things that has prosperity or abundance significant to you (preferably sweet) - - Red Wine, Sweet Cake, Coke , Huat Cake, Oranges, Nice incense etc.. Multiply the Offerings to fill up the entire Universe and request the Deity to enjoy the wine and food that you have humbly prepare. You can also visualise Earth God Deities from the Five Directions (North, South, East, West, Centre) to partake in your offerings.

While chanting, visualise that He has enjoyed your offerings and humbly make a request to Tua Pek Kong to listen to your request for His assistance. Make your wish clear and detailed ( you need to have a very clear mental picture what you are asking for or your desire). Visualise that the Tua Pek Kong nodded His head and gave you His blessings and then disappeared. The Ru Yi is like an "Aladin Lamp" which will grant you your wishes. Wealth shall be manifested from His unlimited Gold Ingots.


Upon completion of chanting, you need to really BELIEVE and have FAITH that your wishes have been granted and you only need to wait for its physical manifestation. The stronger your BELIEF OR FAITH, the faster the manifestation. It is just a matter of time. If you can believe it, you can have it. It's that simple.

From personal observation, majority of all Chinese families ( from the lower-middle income to the wealthy Tow Kays) worship Tua Pek Gong at homes or Offices and they pray daily for blessings of all kinds, from hitting the jackpot at casinoes or lottery to passing school exams, promotion at work and prospering in business.

So once your wishes have been manifested (you should know yourself), you should do Thanks Givings like contributing to Tua Pek Kong Temples ( eg. temple restoration, oil / lamp offerings etc) or help the needy or poor. This allow the wealth energy to be circulated and is also a good way to protect our Good and make it permanent. This will also make Tua Pek Kong happy as His wish is to benefit more people ! He want us to be prosperous NOT because of our selfish gains, but to help the poor, feed the hungry so that here in Singapore we can be prosperous, righteous, have good virtues and can transform Singapore into a country of Prosperity and Righteous-Living (as from His name, 福德正神).

So I think He can be considered the patron God of Singapore, and under his protection and care, hasn't our little Red Dot also grown fat and prosperous ? :>
